John was born on November 12, 1942, in Greenville, Ohio. He was the youngest son to the late James Asher and Alice Florence (Magoto) Swisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws Richard K. and Dolores (Willis) Lowe, brother Samuel James Swisher (1995) and brother-in-law Richard Terry Lowe (2013). John was a 1961 graduate of Fairview High School, Dayton, and a 1966 graduate of The University of Dayton. He taught at Meadowdale High School, where he coached football, cross country and track, and later worked in sales for the freight industry. In retirement, John worked several years for the Miami County Educational Service Center (ESC) as a substitute aide to special needs students. John, "Swish" was a catcher in The Dayton amateur baseball AA league for 17 years, was a member of the 1967 Parkmoor Restaurant National Championship team, and was inducted into the Dayton Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982. He was a lifelong runner and fitness enthusiast and a Dayton Flyers Fan. He was proud of his Versailles roots and his family there. John's favorite moments in life were spent with his family and close friends. The highlight of his life was vacationing in Charlevoix, Michigan, for over 40 years, with his entire family. John was an old-fashioned man with traditional values. He always had a story and a message for his beloved grandchildren and everyone who knew him as "Grandad." He will be missed beyond belief and his heartbroken family will live to honor their hero. As he often signed off with before leaving, over the phone, or in a text, "Take care kiddo, I love ya, Godspeed." A private service was held for the immediate family. Donations may be made in John's memory to the Miami County Educational Service Center (ESC) 2000 West Stanfield Rd. Troy, Ohio 45373, in care of Annie.
